Power off? Burning smell? Call first.
Some urgent faults can be made safe with a switch while you wait. Some are a network problem, not your house. We work out which on the phone, then give you an honest arrival time, or tell you straight if we cannot get there soon enough.
- Smoke or flames: get out and call 999.Do not try to reach the consumer unit through smoke.
- Burning smell or scorching: switch off at the main switch.Only if you can reach it safely. Stop using the socket or appliance.
- Neighbours off too? Call 105.105 is the free national power cut line. In the North East it puts you through to Northern Powergrid.
- Only your house off? Check the consumer unit.Reset a tripped switch once. If it trips again straight away, leave it off and call us.
