A rewire is the biggest electrical job most homes ever need. Done well, it is also the most predictable. We plan it room by room, keep disruption contained, and finish with a house you can decorate with confidence.

Full and partial rewires, explained

A full rewire replaces every cable, socket, switch and light fitting, and usually the consumer unit as well. A partial rewire replaces the circuits that need it and keeps the parts of the installation that are still sound. We only recommend a full rewire when the inspection says it is the right answer.

The work runs in two stages. First fix is the disruptive part: lifting floorboards, chasing walls and running new cables. Second fix is fitting the accessories, connecting the new consumer unit, and testing. Between the two, your plasterer can make good. We can recommend one, or work to yours.

  • Rubber, fabric or lead-sheathed cable anywhere in the house
  • No earth to light fittings or metal switch plates
  • Round-pin sockets or sockets mounted in skirting boards
  • An EICR with several C2 observations across the installation
  • A renovation that will expose the walls and floors anyway
  • Wiring that has been extended piecemeal over several decades

03Process

How the work runs, start to finish.

  1. Tell us what you need

    Call, or send the quote form with a photo if it helps. We ask a few questions and book a visit or survey at a time that suits you.

  2. Survey and written quote

    We look at the existing installation, explain what we find and send a fixed written quote that says exactly what is included.

  3. The work, done carefully

    Floors protected, dust controlled, power kept on where possible, and the house left safe every evening.

  4. Tested, certified, handed over

    Every circuit is tested. You receive the certificate, a labelled circuit chart and a walk-round of what was done.

Rewires: frequently asked questions

How long does a rewire take?

For a typical three-bedroom house, first fix takes around a week and second fix two or three days, with plastering in between. Larger period homes take longer. You get a programme with the quote.

Can we stay in the house during a rewire?

Most families do. We work in stages, keep a temporary supply running for essentials, and leave the house safe and usable each evening. If you can move out for the first-fix week, the job is quicker and the price reflects it.

Will you damage original features?

We plan cable routes to avoid cornices, ceiling roses, panelled walls and original floors wherever possible, lifting boards carefully and numbering them so they go back in the same place.

Do we need to redecorate afterwards?

Expect to redecorate the walls that were chased. Most people time a rewire before decorating for exactly that reason.
