Outdoor sockets, garden lighting and power to outbuildings
Outside work has to cope with North East weather for years, not weeks. We use properly rated fittings, route cable where it will not be dug up, and protect every outdoor circuit correctly.

Outdoor power and lighting, explained
Outdoor circuits face water, frost, lawnmowers and spades. Fittings need the right ingress protection rating for where they sit, cable needs mechanical protection or burying at a safe depth, and every outdoor socket needs RCD protection. Most outdoor tripping faults we are called to trace come from one of those being skipped.
For gardens, we plan lighting with you at dusk if we can: what you want to see from the house, which paths need light for safety, and what should stay dark. Low, warm and well aimed usually beats bright.

Tested, certified, handed over
Every circuit is tested. You receive the certificate, a labelled circuit chart and a walk-round of what was done.

Outdoor: frequently asked questions
How deep does cable to a garden room need to be?
Armoured cable is typically buried deep enough to avoid normal digging and marked with warning tape above it. Where it cannot be buried, it is clipped securely along walls or fences in a protected route.
Can I have garden lights on a timer?
Yes. Lights can be switched from the house, run on a timer or dusk sensor, or controlled from an app, depending on the fittings.
Does a garden room need its own consumer unit?
Often it does, particularly if it will have heating, several sockets and lighting. We assess the load and the distance on the survey.
