Domestic electrical work, explained

Most domestic work starts with a simple question: can this be done, and what will it involve? We answer it properly. We look at the existing installation before we price anything, explain what we find in plain English, and give you a written quote that says exactly what is included.

Work is carried out to BS 7671, the UK wiring regulations. Where the Building Regulations make work notifiable, such as a new circuit, a consumer unit change or work in a bathroom, it is notified to building control and you receive the certificate to keep with the house.

03Process

How the work runs, start to finish.

  1. Tell us what you need

    Call, or send the quote form with a photo if it helps. We ask a few questions and book a visit or survey at a time that suits you.

  2. Survey and written quote

    We look at the existing installation, explain what we find and send a fixed written quote that says exactly what is included.

  3. The work, done carefully

    Floors protected, dust controlled, power kept on where possible, and the house left safe every evening.

  4. Tested, certified, handed over

    Every circuit is tested. You receive the certificate, a labelled circuit chart and a walk-round of what was done.

05 · Questions

Domestic: frequently asked questions

Do you do small jobs?

Yes. A single socket, a light fitting or a fault is worth doing well, and small jobs are often how a longer relationship with a household starts. We may group small jobs into a half-day visit to keep the cost sensible.

Will I get a certificate?

Yes. New circuits and consumer unit changes come with an Electrical Installation Certificate. Smaller alterations come with a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate. Notifiable work is also registered with building control.

Do you need to switch the power off?

For most work, yes, for part of the day. We tell you in advance when and for roughly how long, and we keep essential circuits such as the fridge and heating running wherever the work allows.

Can you work around us while we live in the house?

Almost always. Floors are protected, dust is controlled, and at the end of each day the rooms we have worked in are left safe and usable.
